18 Premier

As if any proof were needed, the presence of Ashbourne Utd. in so many cup finals this year is a fabulous testament to the progress which the club has made in recent years.

Below are some recent and upcoming cup finals which the club are extremely proud of. In addition to this, the club has also had great success at both a team and individual level. The 'Roll of Honour' list on the website will be updated at the end of the season to reflect all these wonderful achievements.

Molly Martin Cup:

On May 14th our 15 Premier side won the Molly Martin Cup against Rivervalley Rangers. More details of this great achievement can be seen in the 'News' section of the website.

Elastoplast Cup:

Last Saturday evening, May 27th, our Division 1A Saturday seniors went down to to Donaghmede in the final of the Elastoplast Cup. This was a fantastic game which seen some excellent performances from our lads. It's very fair to say that Ashbourne played all the football but were unfortunate to come up against a very in form Donaghmede keeper. Congratulations to the lads who have done themselves and the club very proud.

U18s Mary Farrell Cup:

Our 18 Premiers, pictured above, contested the final of this cup against Albion Rovers on Friday 2nd of June at 7.15pm in the NDSL Complex on Oscar Traynor Road. It was a very tight game with not many opportunities arising. The best chance of the game fell to Rocky who from deep in his own half began to press forward and before he knew where he was, he had gone through several players and ended up on the edge of Albion's box but his shot failed to hit the target. Keith Scally also tormented the Albion defence throughout the evening but to no avail. The stalemate continued and the game went into extra time and eventually penalties.

There was a real sense of both excitement and nerves around the pitch and Jemo could be seen at the far end looking into the local's back gardens (anywhere but the penalties). At this stage all the work had been done and the task in hand was left to the lads. Unfortuanately after a couple of misses, Ashbourne finally bowed out and were understandably disappointed. Nonetheless it didn't stop the management team taking out the champagne and having a good ole bash. Speaking of bashes, word has it that the party continued long into the night back at Kelly's and some were rumoured to have ventured to The Vortex. Jemo and Gerry, despite their promises to grace the nightclub, decided it was best to have an 'early' night and headed home. True professionals or trully whipped .......... you decide !

The club are very proud what the guys have achieved and their are a credit to Ashbourne United. Well done lads !
