Over the Easter holidays, Ashbourne had a very successful trip to Liverpool and all of the participating teams from the club, put on a great show. The club would like to thank all of the sponsors and those parents who helped in any way.
Below is a brief summary of how the teams got on. We hope to have more details including photos ..... many photos, in the coming weeks!!
Under 10s:
They played 5 games and only lost one. This was against a Liverpool Academy team and were very unfortunate to be beaten by them. This defeat cost them the cup, getting six points out of a possible nine. They competed in the Shield as a result and their class shone through. James McEntee won player of the tournament and it was very well deserved, but any of the ten players in the squad could have received this acolade. Manager Aidan Ryan says "I was very lucky to have such a great squad with me. Thanks again to all of the parents who came along and helped out. Thanks to JP Twomey, our water boy, medic and tea-boy"
Under 11s:
Said manager John Farrell, "We had a great tournament and thanks to all involved. We won the cup and since we went through the whole tournament only dropping two points, we deserved it. Thanks to all of the parents who were involved"
Under 12s:
Paul Colgan, manager, had this to say, "We did really well to get through to the semi final considering that we started the tournament with a lot of injuries. The team did a really good job and have a right to be proud of themselves". They lost to Evergreen, Kilkenny and following the spirit of such a great game have been invited to go down there to compete in a tournament during the summer. Paul and Jimmy would like to thank all of the parents who travelled over and especially Dominick (Bobby Charlton) Colgan.
The travelling squads would also like to take this opportunity to thank the fantastic Welcome Home Party. It was great to see them out in force!!
