Baltrasna groundworks Update

06 August 2010

On Tuesday 22nd June, local company, Sportsworks, began ground improvement works in Baltrasna. During the coming weeks they will insert several lateral drains, rework the main drain and sand both pitches. They will also put two layers of sand on the training areas and will finish the whole 7 acres off by sewing seeds and fertilising the area.

The works should see Baltrasna become one of the top 10 playing surfaces in the NDSL and is a credit to the Baltrasna Committee and Executive for having the foresight to do such works.

The works are being partly funded by a Meath County Council Grant, some intelligent use of yearly finances by the Executive and profit from the weekly club lotto.

The pitches will be ready for the start of the season and with luck the training areas will be open a month before for pre-season. However, this is not a quick fix solution to the playing surfaces, more an investment for the coming years and overuse in the first season could be detrimental to the works.

So, enjoy the fantastic playing surfaces, look forward to extended months of training BUT please be patient when it comes to pitch usage in the Winter months.
